Wet Rot Treatment Services

Wet rot treatment may be needed when timber has been in prolonged contact with a damp environment. Wet Rot fungus can occur anywhere within a building, normally where there has been water ingress through rising damp or a leaking pipe. Also, wet rot fungus can build up where there is a lack of adequate ventilation which causes a build-up of condensation.

SIGNS OF WET ROT FUNGUS

Spotting Wet Rot is no easy task, that is why it is important to know what you are looking for. It causes timbers to become lighter and longitudinal cracks start to appear; the timber becomes fibrous in appearance. Black Fern like threads usually appear on the surface of the timber that has been in contact with a damp wall. Spotting the signs earlier means that less long-term damage can be done.

Wet rot treatment may be needed if left completely untreated, as it can cause timbers to decay to such an extent that a full replacement may be required and the original timber will be beyond saving. It is also important to note, another less common symptom is a cotton wool like appearance as opposed to the black fern threads. We have had many cases of clients misdiagnosing this as dry rot; if you are unsure, please do contact us.
